Position Summary
The Boathouse assistant position at St. Catharines Rowing Club plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the rowing club by ensuring that equipment, coach boats, and facilities are well maintained, safe, and regatta-ready. This position supports coaches, athletes, and staff by maintaining  a clean, organized, and functional boathouse environment and by assisting with preparation and logistics for training sessions and regattas.

Responsibilities
  • Always maintain a safe environment
  • General maintenance and repairs of all equipment
  • Possible on water coaching
  • On-water safety boat role
  • Maintain boathouse grounds and shell house
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following competencies:
  • Intending to be a 2026 SCRC member
  • Valid Boating license (PCOC)
  • Proven responsibility in the workforce
​​Preference will be given to those with:
  • Proven great work ethic 
  • Ability to drive a coach boat
  • Coach education and on water coach experience
  • Multiyear availability
  • Able to work split shifts and or flexible hours including weekends
  • Experience with hand and power tools 
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check in the past year
​
Hours of Work and Compensation
This is a seasonal position that starts May, 2026 and ends August, 2026. 
Hours are ~ 35/week. Variable days and hours to be worked out with SCRC Head Coach. Flexibility as needed.
Compensation: $18/ hour.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Working conditions are primarily outdoors including in sun, wind, and rain. This position requires heavy lifting of equipment (motors, boats, oars, etc.) and the physical ability to assist rowers in emergencies on the water. Swimming ability is required. There is a large physical component to this position, as physical work is required for program set-up and delivery and facility and equipment upkeep.
