Youth Rowing Camp
WHAT IS IT?
The Youth Rowing Camp is a fun and engaging way for youth ages 10–15 to discover the sport of rowing—no experience needed! Campers learn everything from boat handling to stroke technique, building confidence and teamwork along the way. For returning rowers, it’s a great opportunity to refine skills and deepen their love for the sport. Each week-long camp includes an orientation and swim test, two daily on-water sessions (weather permitting), off-water instruction, and plenty of camp-style games and activities.

WHEN IS IT?
The YRC runs in 7 week-long sessions during the summer season. The campers will meet from 9am to 4pm 
WHO IS IT FOR?
The YRC is specifically meant for athletes who fit one or more of the following conditions:
  • Athletes aged 10 to 18 (Grade 5 to 12)
  • Athletes who want to learn how to row (no experience required!)
  • Athletes who want to have fun on the Henley Island!
Athletes will be supervised and taught by experienced, first aid– and CPR-certified coaches, while maintaining a 1:5 ratio.

IS IT COMPETITIVE?
No, the YRC is not competitive. It is meant for athletes just beginning their rowing careers who want to learn more about rowing and what we do on the island!

Junior Development Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Junior Development Program (JrDEV) helps athletes build strong foundational rowing skills, preparing them to row confidently in different conditions and with various teammates. Weekly skills competitions - such as stationary balance and moving the boat - add fun and challenge to their training. This program serves both as a stepping stone to the club’s competitive team and as a supportive environment for those who enjoy rowing alongside other sports and activities. 

WHEN IS IT?
JrDEV runs two month-long groups. There is one group that runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the second group runs Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. No matter which of the two groups you join, practices are always from 4-6pm.
WHO IS IT FOR?
JrDEV is specifically meant for athletes who fit one or more of the following conditions:
  • Athletes aged 12 to 18 (Grade 7 to 12)
  • Have completed a MINIMUM of two weeks of Youth Rowing Camps
  • Have completed one session of JrDEV
  • Have completed one high school rowing season
Athletes will be supervised and taught by experienced, first aid– and CPR-certified coaches, while maintaining a 1:7 ratio.

IS IT COMPETITIVE?
No, the Junior Development Program is not competitive. It is meant for athletes just beginning their rowing careers who want to learn how to train!

Introduction to Rowing
WHAT IS IT?
The Intro to Rowing Program helps secondary school athletes build strong foundational rowing skills, preparing them to row confidently in different conditions and with their school-specific crewmates. This program serves both as a stepping stone to SCRC's secondary school programming and as a supportive environment for those who enjoy rowing-specific training. 

IS IT COMPETITIVE?
No, the Intro to Rowing program is not competitive and does not attend secondary school regattas. The Program is only meant to expose new or inexperienced rowers to the on-water portion of our sport prior to commencing their high school training. There is a friendly regatta among the Intro to Rowing boats at the end of the session.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Introduction to Rowing Program is specifically meant for athletes who fit all of the following conditions:
  • Athletes aged 14 to 18 (Grade 9 to 12)
  • Enrolled in a secondary school with an established rowing program at SCRC

Athletes can also participate in an additional 2 to 4 secondary practices a week, as recommended by coach digression and athlete goals. The Senior Competitive Program has one day off, and will participate in the weekly island-wide time trials throughout June, July and August. Athletes will also participate in regular testing and rigging, according to RCA standards.
WHO IS IT FOR?
This program is for experienced athletes younger than the age of 17 for the given calendar year. 
Please note: If you are turning 17 years old this calendar year, you do not qualify for this program.


IS IT COMPETITIVE?
Yes, this program is competitive. This means that there will be a try-out and selection process, with athletes ranked based on speed and ability. Members of this program will participate in various regattas throughout the year, with the potential for additional travel and lodging expenses.

Senior Rowing Programming

U23 Competitive Program
WHAT IS IT?
The U23 (Senior B) Program is geared towards rowing excellence. The goal of this program is to gain rowing experience, perfect the rowing stroke and to win the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the first week of August. 

WHEN IS IT?
​The Senior Program trains regularly, around 6 on-water practices a week, which last about 45-120 minutes a session. Athletes can also participate in an additional 4 to 5 secondary practices a week, as recommended by coach digression and athlete goals. The Senior Competitive Program has one day off, and will participate in the weekly island-wide time trials throughout June, July and August. Athletes will also participate in regular testing and rigging, according to RCA standards.​
WHO IS IT FOR?
This program is for experienced athletes between the ages of 19 and 22 years of age for the given year. 
Please note: If you are turning 23 years old this calendar year, you do not qualify for this program.


IS IT COMPETITIVE?
Yes, this program is competitive. This means that there will be a try-out and selection process, with athletes ranked based on speed and ability. Members of this program will participate in various regattas throughout the year, with the potential for additional travel and lodging expenses.

This program is for experienced athletes who are 23 years of age and older for the given calendar year. 
Please note: The Masters Program races 1000m races. Should you want to race the standard 2000m races, please register in our Senior Program.
