Student Athlete Bursary Recipients
The recipients of the 2022 Student Athlete Bursary were Mia Biancaniello, and runner-up Madeleine Enns.
Mia wrote a compelling letter that showed her perseverance and determination, despite her visual impairment. Mia has overcome so much through the sport of rowing. She is an inspiration, showing the world that inclusion is, not only important, but viable. With her experience of winning a gold medal, (congrats to Mia for this accomplishment), at the para rowing event at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, she will be able to encourage others with disabilities that sport is for all.
Madeleine Enns was the recipient of the runner-up bursary. As soon as the award was announced, she read the book, WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. She wrote such a compelling letter, that was so well written, making me feel as if I was back in a boat. She combined humour to her story, and I laughed along with her. She also made comparisons of herself to the main character in the novel which made her story so thoughtful. This runner-up bursary wasn't in the original plan, but Madeleine's letter was so well-written that she needed to be awarded as well.
