Youth Rowing Camp

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Youth Rowing Camp program is a great way for youth ages 10-15 to learn about rowing. No experience is required. Campers learn everything about rowing, from boat handling to stroke technique. For those who have already tried and enjoyed rowing, camp is a way to improve their skills!

The week-long camps are broken down into an orientation session and swim test, on-water rowing sessions (2 each day, weather permitting), off-water instructional sessions and camp-style games and activities.

Youth will be supervised by experienced coaches who are qualified in first aid and CPR. When on the water, coaches drive alongside the rowing shells in a fully equipped motorized coach boat that includes life jackets, a whistle and cell phone, and other safety equipment. Coach: youth ratio of 1:5.

Junior Development Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Junior Development program focuses on fun, fitness, and skills in rowing! Open to athletes who have completed grade 7 or above. Athletes must have completed MINIMUM two sessions of Youth Rowing Camp, or one session/season of junior development or high school rowing.

The Junior Development program focuses on building the fundamental skills so athletes can row comfortably in different conditions and with different crew members. Skills competitions (e.g., stationary balance, backing, spinning) are held at least once a week. The program can act as a launchpad for athletes who want to join the club competitive program, as well as be a place for athletes who love rowing but want to participate in other sports and activities as well.

Youth will be supervised by experienced coaches who are qualified in first aid and CPR. When on the water, coaches drive alongside the rowing shells in a fully equipped motorized coach boat that includes life jackets, a whistle and cell phone, and other safety equipment. Coach:Youth ratio of 1:4.

Junior Competitive Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The junior competitive programs consist of athletes who have already participated in a high school competitive program.  There are two age categories with divisions for Women and Men: U17 Women, U17 Men, U19 Women, and U19 Men. The St. Catharines Rowing Club Junior Competitive Program is highly competitive. With this in mind, athletes are given many hours of practice and instructional time to further their development.

Our junior competitive athletes are interested in
training daily to improve their skills and fitness as athletes/coxswains with the SCRC.  It is the goal of this competitive program to continue the skill development of sweep and sculling with the ultimate goal of winning Henley Gold!
