Registration Instructions

This registration instruction page is for all registrants who are rowing in a Club Competitive Program (Fall, U17, U19, U23, SR or Masters), registering for either High School Introduction to Rowing, ​or Adult Learn to Scull Program​.

Welcome to the St. Catharines Rowing Club.

To ensure a safe environment is created for all our Members, the requirements listed below must be completed for the upcoming season membership renewal.  IF YOU REQUIRE A CLUB SHELL AND OARS a request must be made when e-transferring your fees.  The Rowing Committee will consider your request which must include boat/blades, time(s) of day, day(s) of week. Rowers are cautioned that your request is subject to rowing shell availability.  Your e-transfer will not be accepted until the Rowing Committee has determined that your request can be accommodated.

Should you have any questions about registration, please contact Brian Thorne, VP Membership at [email protected].  Electronic registration documents should be emailed directly to Brian Thorne.  Hardcopy registration documents can be deposited into the drop box in Bay 4 and an email to Brian Thorne that your documents have been submitted.

Follow the steps in this document.  Use the checklist at the end of this printable document to ensure you have fulfilled all the requirements for registration for the upcoming session(s) of rowing and include the checklist with your documents.

Ability to Swim/Attestation Form:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. REQUIREMENTS:  All Athletes 17yr and under must successfully complete the Swim Test. Athletes 18 years and older must either complete the swim test or complete the Ability to Swim Attestation Form
  2. READ:  (17 yr and under)  SCRC Swim Test Form; (18 yr+) Ability to Swim Attestation Form
  3. PASS SWIM TEST or COMPLETE and SIGN:  the Attestation Form.
  4. ATTACH:  the completed form to your registration submission.
  
RCA Rowing Safety:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. REVIEW:  Six (6) RCA Safety Training Modules located at RCA Rowing Safety. Connect to this website and click on the “Let’s Go” link to learn about Risk Assessment, Boating Safety, Environment and Weather, Athlete Emergency Response, Individual Safety, and Equipment.
  2. REVIEW: the SCRC Emergency Action Plan (EAP) found on the SCRC website to understand what to do in the event of an emergency situation at the rowing course.
  3. PRACTICE: the safety aspects of the sport whenever participating in rowing activities.
 
SCRC Safe Sport:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. WATCH:  Safe Sport Awareness Video a Safe Sport educational initiative. 
  2. DISCOVER:  the Safe Sport Policy Manual available on the SCRC website under Documents/Safe Sport
  3. PRACTICE:  Safe sport in all your activities and interactions with others at the Club

SCRC Cold Water & Warm Water Rules:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. READ:  SCRC Cold Water Rules are currently in effect when Martindale Pond water temperature is less than 11 degrees Celsius.   These rules are approved by the Board of Directors for 2025. SCRC Warm Water Rules will come into effect when the Martindale Pond water temperature is 11 degrees Celsius or greater and declared to be in place by the Head Coach.
  2. PRACTICE and COMPLY with Cold Water and Warm Water rules.  During cold water conditions rowing shells must stay within 500m of their designated safety boat.  Safety boat drivers/coaches may monitor no more than six shells.  Wear appropriate clothing for cold weather rowing conditions.  Bring towels and dry clothes to change into in the event your shell capsizes.

Ontario’s Concussion Awareness and Protocols (Rowan’s Law):  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. DISCOVER:  Concussion Recognition and Management from Row Ontario
  2. READ:  Concussion Awareness 15yr+
  3. WATCH:  Concussion Awareness Video 15yr+
  4. PRINT, COMPLETE and SIGN: the RO Concussion Code of Conduct for Athletes.
  5. ATTACH:  the completed form to your registration submission.

SCRC Code of Conduct and Ethics:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. READ: SCRC Code of Conduct and Ethics
  2. PRACTICE:  professional conduct and ethics in all your activities and interactions.
 
Image Consent Form:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. PRINT, COMPLETE and SIGN:  Image Consent Form  as part of the Safe Sport Policy.
  2. ATTACH:  the completed form to your registration submission.

2024 RCA / SCRC Waiver:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. READ:  if 17 yr & under RCA/SCRC Waiver 17yr under; if 18 yr+  RCA/SCRC Waiver 18yr+  
  2. PRINT, COMPLETE and SIGN:  the RCA/SCRC Waiver form.  Be sure to include your emergency contact information on the form.
  3. ATTACH:  the completed form to your registration submission.

Payment of 2024 Membership Fees:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. TIME FRAMES: go to 2025 Membership Fees to see rowing session dates, membership fees, racing entry fee deposits, and boat storage fees.  If you wish to start rowing in the Spring Session starting April 1, you must pay both Spring Membership Fee and boat storage fee (if applicable) prior to going on the water.
  2. FEE PAYMENT:  can be made by e-transfer to [email protected].  As part of your e-transfer indicate for which program you are registering (e.g. Junior, Senior, Masters).
  3. CLUB EQUIPMENT REQUESTS:   IF YOU REQUIRE A CLUB SHELL AND OARS a request must be made when e-transferring your fees.  The Rowing Committee will consider your request which must include boat/blades, weight class, time(s) of day, day(s) of week. Rowers are cautioned that your request is subject to shell availability.  Your e-transfer will not be accepted until the Rowing Committee has determined that your request can be accommodated.
  4. SUBMIT:  your fees and all registration documents before going on the water.​
RCA Registration:  ACTION REQUIRED
  1. Athletes must register with Rowing Canada Aviron to Join an SCRC Rowing Program
  2. IF YOU ROWED Club, High School or Youth between 2018 and 2025, you should already have an RCA Web Registration account.  Sign in and check your account information.  If any items such as your home address, email address, etc., have changed, you need to edit your RCA account and bring it up to date.
  3. IF YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR THE FIRST TIME, you need to Create a New RCA Account. Keep a record of your RCA username and password for future use. Questions about the RCA Web Reg system can be directed to the VP Membership, Brian Thorne [email protected] 
  4. GO:  if you already have an account with RCA, Log In to your RCA Account.
  5. FOLLOW:  the Web Reg instructions to select your program and complete your 2025 registration with RCA. (You may have to continuously check Web Reg if your program is not immediately available).

Use the following CHECKLIST to ensure you have completed all the requirements for registration. Include this checklist in your registration documents. Completed documents can be scanned and emailed to Brian Thorne, VP Membership [email protected] or dropped off in the Boathouse mail box inside Bay 4.
