2024 Under 17 Women
Summer Competitive Season
GOVERNMENT ISSUE PHOTO ID IS REQUIRED FOR RACE DAY
Lead Coach for the women’s U17 program is Rich Moreau [email protected]
Please read this document, and if you plan to register for this program, please do the following:
- Complete the "U17 Women Registration Information" Form below.
- Pay the summer competitive fee. If you rowed for your high school you will already be in the RCA system as a high school athlete.
Our first meeting this year will be at the Neil Campbell Rowing Centre (new building across from the workshop on Henley Island) for our initial 2k Erg Assessment on Sunday, June 9th 2024. Time will be determined at a later date and communicated via email with registered athletes.
Our first practice will be Monday June 10th and we will meet out front of Bay 5 & 6. All fees must be paid to the club before beginning training.
See website for more information on that (https://www.stcatharinesrowingclub.org/membership.html).
Practice times will be Mon - Fri 5pm - 7:30pm (getting out on time is dependent on athletes completing all closing tasks in a timely manner) and Sat 8am - 10am. Sunday will be our day off. There are times where we may be required to meet on Sunday to unload trailers and rig boats after Saturday regattas.
Crew Selections will be determined through a combination of 2k erg assessment, seat racing, attendance, and rowing ability as assessed by program coaches. The coaching staff reserves the right to change boating combinations throughout the season, if it is deemed changes are necessary.

Some expectations for athletes this summer:
- Attend as many practices as possible - this is a competitive program with the ultimate goal of rowing in and winning as many races as we can. You will get out of the program what you are willing to give to the program. We cannot place you in our most competitive boats if you are not available for consistent training and important regatta dates.
- Athletes are to handle all of their necessary communication with the coaching staff directly through email or in person. This is your (the athlete's) rowing career and it is important to learn how to manage communication to best serve yourself.
- The main form of communication from the coaching staff will be email. Please make sure you check your email regularly and manage your schedules accordingly.
- Treat everyone - not just coaches - with respect. There is a high standard of conduct we expect athletes to display both at the rowing club and when visiting other courses.
- Everyone is to participate in practice preparation and cleanup - coach boats, washing boats, packing up stretchers, etc.

Parents
The St. Catharines Rowing Club is a highly competitive rowing club. Rowing in the top boat is not a right – it is earned through effort, achievement in practice, experience and the ability to race under pressure. Athletes are given many hours of practice and instructional time to further their development. The decision of who rows in top boats will be made in order that the team may be successful and achieve program and club goals.
Athlete selection for boat selection is exclusively the decision of the coaching staff. These coaches observe your athletes in practice and get to know their strengths and weaknesses in the sport. They therefore have the right to decide the boating and seating arrangements.
Athletes are encouraged to discuss their strengths and weaknesses with their coaches during practice sessions at appropriate times during practice or after practice when equipment is put away. We ask that such discussions be limited to practice times only and not to approach the coaches during a regatta. We also ask that at all times, the inside of the boathouse and the dock is off limits to parents and friends.
Parents will not approach coaching staff during regatta days with questions regarding line-up, race strategies, or boating positions. Should you have questions, the coaching staff will be happy to set up a time to discuss your athlete’s abilities and progress. Discussions will be limited to your athlete’s performance only. Coaches will not comment on other athlete’s performances or other coach’s decisions.
The rowing club is grateful to all parents for their numerous ways of contributing to the rowing club. Without you parents, the rowing club would be lacking in volunteers. There are many areas in which parents can contribute to the club. If you are interested contact Kate Hingston [email protected]. This is a great opportunity to see racing from the water as well as be a part of the 120 years of rowing at the Club. Thank you St. Catharines Rowing Club
